Its supposed to be The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Even for those of us lucky enough to be normal and healthy, its a time of stress and high expectations. Were supposed to be happy, even when were dealing with uncomfortable family get togethers, spending time at office holiday parties with co-workers we dont like all that much and trying to cram gift purchases into our budgets. Add to it the cold, snowy and icy weather and financial issues you may have, December is an emotional mine field for the unprepared.

An experiment in the UK has shown what those who suffered from Diabetes 2 were able to be off their medication in just a few weeks by doing something as simple as changing their caloric intake.

The study showed that those participants who kept to a 600 calorie a day diet were able to recover from the illness and some tossed away their medication. A year and a half later after the test, most were reportedly free of the disease.

Type 2 Diabetes is often and rightly so associated with excess fat. Processed foods, and other fast digesting foods. The shedding of excess pounds often leads to the disease being more treatable or gone altogether.

For my winter meals, the more squash the better is my motto  and I cant cook enough of the nutty-sweet gourds (the rest of my family does not equally share my enthusiasm).

In this image, you are viewing my latest purchase at a local farm.  We have from right, blue ballet, amber cup with acorn on top and to the left.  In the background there are 3 butternuts and 1 gi-mongous hubbard squash.  Each of these squashes (that does not sound like a proper word!) have slightly different tastes but all tend to be on the sweeter side with a bit of nuttiness thrown in.  The textures differ a bit in that some are more hard and dry (butter cup and hubbard for example) while others are less firm and definitely more moist.

Butternut Pudding Cups Ingredients: 4 cups cubed butternut squash 1 1/2 cup low-fat milk 1/2 cup cornmeal 2 large eggs, separated into yolk and whites 1 Tbsp brown sugar 1 Tbsp maple syrup 1 Tbsp grated fresh ginger ½ tsp nutmeg 1/4 tsp ground cloves 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions: Preheat oven to 350°F. In a m

But when they did get breast cancer, men were caught with more advanced disease, on average, and were more likely to die from it.

“It’s not surprising that men with breast cancer present with later stages,” said Dr. Susan Dent, from the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Center in Canada, who was not involved in the new study.

“That’s just because the awareness of the fact that breast cancer can occur in men is not as acute,” she told Reuters Health. “Men aren’t as likely to think of it, and health care providers aren’t as likely to think of men having breast cancer.”

Men are most commonly in their 60s or 70s when diagnosed with breast cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute.
