With the number of medical image storage and sharing solutions continue to increase, medical institutions now have plenty of options to choose from. There are a lot of unique features and added benefits that can make a certain medical image storage system better than the rest. Among the features you should look into is the ability to archive medical images accordingly.
When a medical image storage server is filled with medical images, the overall performance of the system will be reduced. This is because the system will have to read from a larger database in order to find a specific diagnostic image. At this state, the system should be able to automatically archive old medical images and store them securely.
Archived images should be stored in a separate server and recorded as a separate database. Although users can access them using the same user interface, the archived diagnostic images are actually stored and processed separately. Only recent and frequently images are stored in the main database; this is to keep the system performance at a good level.
You can also set your own archiving parameters. If you want diagnostic images from over 1 year ago to be archived automatically, all you need to do is set the parameter accordingly from the administrator interface.
